DOME_LIVE 016 Csontváry: Levante
Levante, meaning (sun [rise]) east; traditionally the European and Asian countries along the Silk Road east of Italy. Between the late 1800s and 1907, Csontváry made several trips to the Middle East in search of the 'great motif'. The 'Sun Road' and his search for luminous colours extended across several stages, leading him from the vicinity of Naples to Taormina in Sicily, and then through Athens to Jerusalem and Lebanon. Miss Virgács (Nikolett Németh) and the music of the Mediterranean basin will be our guides on this path, so that through the painter's refined vision we too can experience the influence of grand buildings, thousand-year-old trees, and the power of nature and light.
