Sextet with Stars

Kirill Troussov will arrive at the House of Music Hungary with some of his most talented musical friends. They will perform two chamber music works with an unusual concert apparatus: Mendelssohn’s String Symphony in D major and Glinka’s Sextet in E-flat major. We can count on some truly joyous music, as the violinist himself has put it: “When we take the stage, we are also celebrating the fact that we are meeting in a certain point in the world and playing music together. For me, chamber music is one of the most important aspects of a classical music career, as it unites not only the audience in the concert hall, but also the musicians on the stage. It is a true win-win, where everyone benefits.” The piano is frequently to the fore in the works of Mendelssohn and Glinka too, which employ the violin, viola, cello and double bass to showcase every height and depth of the sound of strings. A string quartet, double bass and piano – this is the apparatus for Glinka’s sextet, while the use of two violas lends Mendelssohn’s work a slightly more sombre shade. The sweeping momentum of Glinka’s piece was largely inspired by the Italian travels of the composer, and it is easy to detect the characteristics of romantic opera. With his sextet, Mendelssohn demonstrates that he was unquestionably one of the greatest geniuses of classical music – he had only just turned 15 years of age when he completed the work. You can sense the intimate influence of Hadyn and Mozart, yet also the composer’s brilliant and unique sound which – in Kirill Troussov’s opinion too – “always brings joy.”
