A Groundbreaking Rock Opera: Jesus Christ Superstar
This program will be held in Hungarian.
Jesus Christ Superstar, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, debuted on Broadway in 1971 and has since become the world's most famous rock opera. The story depicts the last days of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem, but instead of following the traditional biblical narrative, it shows events from Judas's perspective. It raises questions such as power, betrayal, faith, and human weakness. The music has become iconic, a favorite of generations: a unique blend of rock, gospel, soul, and classical oratorio traditions. This time, we will discuss the interesting aspects of the genre, the stage play, and the 1973 film, as usual presented by Dóra Tápai.
Our series Hangadó Senior is especially aimed at older participants, but of course we welcome anyone who is interested. The aim of the series is to act as a club and to playfully tell a chapter of music history in an hour-long interactive journey through time.
