Music and Architecture: A Composer's Evening with Xenakis and Gyula Csapó
This programme is held in Hungarian.
Composers? Present! in our series of events by that name, this time the world premiere of the composition titled Gyula Csapó XY will take place at the House of Music – fully in line with the composer's intentions, since he wrote his new work specifically with regard to the acoustic characteristics of our Concert Hall. One of the special features of the piece, which involves fourteen instrumental performers and electronics, is that the musicians will play not only on stage but also among the audience, and the listeners themselves will even have the opportunity to actively participate in sound creation. The sound will be completed by speakers placed behind the auditorium, so we can expect a genuine sound-bath experience. Csapó Gyula's work will be preceded at the concert by one of the classics of compositions that exploit special architectural spaces, Iannis Xenakis Polytope de Cluny , an electronic piece the Greek-French composer—originally trained as an architect-engineer—conceived for one of the venues of the 1972 Paris Autumn Festival. As is our custom, we will also provide educational context: as part of the program András Batta will discuss the relationship between music and architecture with József Martinkó, editor-in-chief of Octogon Magazine.
