Metamorphosis: Storytelling from Baroque to Minimalism
This programme is held in Hungarian.
The Lyon-based Trio SR9 arrives with a particularly exciting repertoire: in their program spanning three hundred years, great classics and fresh musical works are performed, reimagined for percussion instruments. Composers featured include the late Baroque master Jean-Philippe Rameau, Philip Glass representing American minimalism, Nils Frahm from the Berlin electronic music scene, the young Polish singer and pianist Hania Rani, as well as early 20th-century French luminaries such as Claude Debussy, Erik Satie, and the tragically fated Lili Boulanger. In addition to traditional percussion instruments such as the vibraphone and marimba, the trio also incorporates glass cups and other everyday objects into their music-making—items not often heard at a classical music concert.
The Trio SR9 percussion ensemble consists of founding members Paul Changarnier, Nicolas Cousin, and Alexandre Esperet, who met as students at the Lyon Conservatory and quickly attracted international attention thanks to their outstanding competition results. One of their most important goals is to expand the percussion repertoire: they regularly perform arrangements of a wide variety of musical works, and present pieces composed specifically for them. They are constantly seeking opportunities for collaboration and have frequently performed as part of dance and theatre productions as well. Over the course of their career so far, they have released four albums and are also regular participants in classical music television and radio broadcasts in France.
The program is supported by the French Institute.
