Táncház (Dance House): Gáska
This programme is held in Hungarian.
Again this year, from May to September, the free Dance House in the Open Air continues on the Open-Air Stage of the House of Music, this time with Gáska playing.
In Moldavia, the word “gáska” is used for a band or a group of friends; the name of the ensemble refers to the cohesive power of making music together. Their heartfelt mission is to present Csángó folk music authentically: they rely primarily on traditional forms, seeking the original flavors. They infuse their playing style with the characteristic traits of role models such as Bogdan Toader, András Hodorog, or Ioan Antim, while also bringing this music into the present with a spirit of experimentation and their own energies. They evoke the original ideas of Moldavian musicians through their manner of performance. The tunes they play are often linked to personal experiences and encounters; these emotions fill the sounds they produce and make them come alive.
“We regularly play for Moldavian dance houses, mostly in Budapest. Our dance houses are characterized by a lively, energetic tone. Our goal is to revive the joy of the old times and to keep alive the sustaining power of dancing together, moving in a circle as one.
These occasions give us space to communicate with the dancers; through the connection between music and dance, what matters to us comes into effect: presence, emotion, dynamics, emphasis.
We are kept alive by the connection with the dancers, just as they are by reveling to live music.”
Covered Open-air Stage concerts
The program will be held even in rainy weather, as the Open-air Stage is largely covered.
