Taste of Swing - Jazz Session

Swing dances, jazz music and community experience – completely free of charge! 

Dancing outdoors – Taste of Swing event series would like to reach:
• those who are just starting to get acquainted with jazz music and are curious how to dance to it 
• those who are fans of jazz music and practitioners of swing dances, 
• or those who are simply curious what it feels like to drop into a truly energetic, creative and inclusive environment. 

What do we offer? 
Taste of Swing: free Lindy Hop trial class for complete beginners 
The program starts with an introductory swing dance class where you don’t need to know anything in advance. We’ll show you the basics, you can try out the movements and experience what it feels like to dance to swing music – freely, playfully, and without expectations. 

Jazz concert & Social Swing Party 
After the trial class, a jazz concert awaits, combined with a swing dance evening, with a swing DJ providing music during the breaks. This way you can enjoy the evening even if you only want to listen to the music, and also if you feel like dancing. 

Band 
Meeting the swing community 
We trust that a large part of the Hungarian swing dance community will also be present, so you can see up close what it’s like to dance swing dances and what the atmosphere of such an event is like. 

Why is it worth coming? 
Dancing develops creativity, helps you break out of everyday life, and connects you to a community that is open, supportive and inspiring. This evening is about experience, music, the joy of movement and tuning in to one another. We warmly welcome everyone who is open to the world of swing jazz, who would like to try dancing, or who simply longs for a special, cheerful, community-based program. 

The dance we’ll try together: Lindy Hop 
The jewel of swing dances – energetic, playful and full of improvisation. It was born in the Harlem of the 1920s–30s, and ever since it has conquered millions of people around the world with its cheerful atmosphere and sense of freedom. No partner is required to participate, but we are happy if you can bring one. 

The dance we’ll try together: Shag 
Fast, dynamic, and every step brings a smile to your face. It started in the jazz clubs of the 1930s and is a perfect choice if you like up-tempo music and cheerful, liberated dance styles. No partner is required to participate, but we are happy if you can bring one. 

The dance we’ll try together: Solo Jazz & Charleston 
One of the freest and most colorful forms of swing dancing – here everything is about you and the music. Classic jazz steps, playful moves and spontaneous improvisations mix together to bring out your creative side. You’re not just dancing – you bring the music to life, a little differently in every bar, a little better in every moment. No partner is required to participate. 

The dance we’ll try together: Blues 
One of the most expressive dance styles of jazz – full of emotion, improvisation and freely following the pulse of the music. It can be slow and sensual, but it can also be dynamic and playful – it is always shaped together with the music. It is a perfect choice if you love the intimate connection between movement and music, and if you’d like to discover the endless freedom of dance in an open, friendly environment. No partner is required to participate, but we are happy if you can bring one. 

Participation rules 
By taking part, you also agree to respect the fundamental principles of our community: you are present with openness and attentiveness, you accept the guidelines of the Pepita Dance Association (General Terms and Conditions, Code of Conduct), and you take the time to get to know the Dance Etiquette. All this is important so that this evening can be a safe, liberating and joyful experience for everyone.
