Concert and Hungarian folk dance event: Sarjú Banda
This programme is held in Hungarian.
In 2026 as well, from May to September, the free Open-Air Dance House will continue at the House of Music Hungary’s Open-Air Stage, this time featuring music by Sarjú Banda, celebrating their 10th anniversary.
Sarjú Banda was formed ten years ago by talented young musicians committed to preserving the Hungarian folk music heritage. The band has been active since the 2016 “Fölszállott a páva” talent show; over this time, the members have grown from children into teenagers, and by now into young adults, to the great delight of the dance-house movement.
The ensemble combines extraordinary technical skill with humility toward the data-providing village master musicians, transmitting the folk music of the Carpathian Basin not by modernizing it, but in its original, raw energy. For years they hosted the popular Teen Dance House at the Fonó Budai Zeneház in Budapest, through which they managed to introduce their own age group to the world of folk dance. By now, as students or graduates of the Liszt Academy, the band members have become indispensable figures of the Hungarian folk music scene, a status also reflected by their 2021 album titled “Our Favorites”. Among their achievements they count their travels throughout the Carpathian Basin and North America, as well as the occasions when they learn the depths of folk music directly from their masters.
The founding members of the band are László Hajdu-Németh, Balázs Hajdu-Németh and Tibor Gál, who over the years were joined by Szabolcs Szilágyi, Áron Horváth and Bendegúz Csoóri, completing today’s line-up. Their artistic director and mentor since their formation has been Barbara Kuczera.
The production is completed by two graduates of the Hungarian University of Dance Arts, who are dancers of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble – Zoltán Makula and Bori Busai – whose excellent dance skills and professional dedication raise the standard of the performances.
