Let’s Start the Summer with Weiner Symphonic Band

The Weiner Leó Catholic Music School and Secondary Vocational School of Music is the alma mater of many renowned artists; numerous careers were launched within its walls. It is therefore no surprise that its work has been recognized with the Prima Primissima Award. We can gain insight into the life of this wonderful creative workshop through the school’s wind orchestra.

The orchestra was founded in 1994 under the direction of István Sztán, who was head of the school’s brass department, its principal for 10 years, later “Honorary Principal,” and who became a legendary figure in Hungarian brass education. Over the more than 30 years that have passed, the ensemble he founded has won numerous national and international competition and festival prizes. Since 2018, the work has continued under the direction of conductors Balázs Bánfi and Tibor Takács, who are worthily carrying on the promotion of wind music.

In this spirit, they will also present their season-opening summer concert on the outdoor stage of the House of Music Hungary. Their program already evokes freedom and the carefree spirit of the holidays, featuring popular, catchy melodies from the worlds of classical music, musicals, and light entertainment music.

As part of the Fringe programme launched to support the mission of the House of Music, Hungary, we invited applicants in three categories – music school students, music hobbyists, and up-and-coming bands and street musicians – to take advantage of the opportunity to perform in various spots around the building. In line with the mission of the institution, the Musicians of the Future programme series provides an opportunity to showcase promising young musicians – primarily music school students – at the House of Music through short concerts in our communal areas.
