IntrOpera #9

The Opera Initiation series was created in the belief that opera, the genre that unites the two, can be accessible to and enjoyable for all. This conversational concert series, which presents a collection of the greatest operas in a humorous and easily accessible format, will continue at the House of Music in the 2024/25 season with an analysis of Mozart’s The Magic Flute. At these events, the audience will see the man behind the idea, Dániel Dinyés, reveal the mysteries of music, as director Pál Göttinger provides a glimpse into the opera rehearsal process. The practiced pair’s stand-up act makes the opera itself and the genre as a whole more accessible through entertaining analysis, improvisation, and plenty of laughs. During the unique, one-off initiations, this year too the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy both internationally recognised opera singers and artists in the early stage of their career, in addition to the customary duo. Delta Produkció’s unconventional series has seen ten years of sell-out shows and helped make the genre of opera an enjoyable experience for everyone. The goal is to provide a unique experience for people who already love the opera, those who are wary of it, and anyone in the mood for a good time. But why Mozart yet again, and why The Magic Flute, exactly? “Staying simple is the hardest thing in the world. For Mozart, it’s just like riding a bicycle. As our greatest ambition is to help people learn while laughing – and to be entertainingly accessible – there can be no more perfect choice than Mozart. In addition, The Magic Flute is the only one of Mozart’s great operas that we haven’t already covered. There are a lot of characters, which is perhaps why we have been putting it off – even though it’s one of his most famous and popular operas. At Opera Initiation sessions, we rarely have more than two or three singers on stage. Here, however, there are at least four singers in every scene, which means – to reveal a backstage secret – our season will be a logistical nightmare,” laughs Dániel Dinyés, before adding: “We take a genius and have ourselves a great time. This is how I always think of Opera Initiation. A meaningful and quality way to spend your time. We can look forward to more of the same in the 2024/25 season, too.” No need to be afraid – just come along! Recommended from everyone aged 14 to 100.
