At the first classical music concert of our 2025/26 season – befitting the occasion – one of Hungary’s finest ensembles, the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, returns to the House of Music, this time under the baton of a true doyen of the Hungarian classical music scene, the eighty-year-old this year Mátyás Antal.

First, Mozart’s miniature masterpiece, the C minor Adagio and Fugue composed in the spirit of Bach, will be performed, followed by Shostakovich’s First Piano Concerto, in which, unusually, the trumpet is given a role equal in weight to that of the solo piano. Two internationally renowned artists, József Balog and Gábor Boldoczki, join the orchestra for the performance of this dazzlingly virtuosic piece. To close, Schubert’s Fifth Symphony, showing strong Mozartian influences, will be heard; the composer was only nineteen years old when he wrote this work of genius. As our audience has come to expect from us, the reception of the pieces performed will be supported by substantial verbal commentary, which on this occasion will be provided by Szilvia Becze, the host of the evening.
