The interactive educational series Hangadó, Árpád Tóth, which is as old as the House itself, has reached its 4th season. In 2025/26 we are preparing with double lectures, so we warmly welcome those who like to sleep in on Sundays as well: in addition to the usual 11 a.m. start, our lectures will be repeated at 2 p.m. This year, too, we will discover well-known and less familiar chapters of a thousand years of music history through special cross-sections and from unusual perspectives, while the basic premise of the events remains unchanged: it is simply impossible to go home from this event without humming.
Symmetry and Asymmetry in Music
We will trace one of the most general rules of all creative arts in the context of music history: from the simple forms of medieval songs through the bipartite forms that gained enormous ground in the Baroque era all the way to the bridge form favored in the 20th century, many compositional models play with these two concepts. Examining the maze of familiar and unfamiliar musical works will confirm the general proposition that in music everything is always a little different.
