eSzínház Online: There is War
Tamás Cseh’s songs evoke a world where we understand each other from half-spoken words, enjoy life with our eyes closed, and laugh at death. On the 80th anniversary of the birth of Tamás Cseh, his creative partners, Géza Bereményi and János Másik take the stage with a truly special program. The evening will feature songs from the albums “Levél nővéremnek” (“Letter to my Sister”), among many other compositions. Numerous stories, thoughts, and memories are recalled on stage. The genuine musician János Másik provides the singing and the music – sometimes piano, guitar or bandoneon – while Géza Bereményi remains a writer even in the spotlight, now casting his lines not onto paper, but onto the audience. We gain an insight into Bereményi’s childhood and youth through excerpts from his already published (Hungarian Copperfield) and currently in-progress autobiographical novel.
In the words of the author duo recommending the performance: “The novel excerpts and songs work like cogs, setting each other in motion further and further along the soul’s racing highway, until the entire show comes to an end.” Its title – There Is a War – comes from one of the songs on the 1994 album “Levél nővéremnek 2.”: “stars, celestial needles scratch onto my eyes: there is a war, stars, the war goes on, tell it to stop, or in the end I’ll be guilty.”
The recording was made at the concert held on 30 September 2023 at the House of Hungarian Music.
