Geographical isolation conserves and protects the archaic elements and ancient musical form found in folk music. They are frequently still heard today, offering a glimpse of earlier times and past musicianship that stands apart from modern aesthetic concepts. Sardinia is one such island – its peaks and valleys in the middle of the Mediterranean capture the musical spirit of the traditional polyphonic “cantu a tenore” folk style, which is thought to have been around since ancient times and is still alive today. Tenores di Bitti Remunnu e' Locu, one of the finest and most authentic groups of cantu a tenore, which is on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list, will be a special guest of the House of Music. The group will bring the ancient powerlines of their music to the stage alongside Sára Tímár, Lehel Halászi and the duo of Balázs Istvánfi and András Németh, four Hungarian folk musicians with an intimate knowledge of the most ancient layers of Hungarian musical tradition. In other words, you will hear some very old music at this concert. Very, very old music!
The concert is linked to the House of Music’s temporary exhibition, LISTEN. - A Musical Journey Around the World.
