Blur: To the End (2024)

The Damon Albarn-led (vocals, keyboards) guitar-pop group Blur were founded in the late 1980s. They initially experimented with a range of different genres, before finding their style as one of the instigators of the Britpop movement in the 1990s. In the second half of the decade, they also showed us how a band can reinvent itself time and again. Blur were one of the most important and successful bands of the 1990s – after their third record, Parklife (1994), each of their albums made it to the top of the UK charts. After 15 years together, they bid farewell to each other and their audience for the first time in 2003. Blur enjoyed a second heyday from 2009 to 2015, and have been back together since 2023. Toby L.’s nearly two-hour film documents both this surprise reunion and the circumstances around their ninth album, The Ballad of Darren, released in 2023 after an eight-year hiatus.

THE FILM WILL BE SCREENED IN ENGLISH, WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES

Contemporary Hungarian film and (rock) music have been in contact practically since the late 1960s. Sometimes more intensively, sometimes more loosely, but they are essentially inseparable.  Before the screenings, Béla Szilárd Jávorszky will talk briefly about the genesis and pop-historical significance of these works, followed by a discussion with a guest film aesthetics expert on the relevant domestic and international trends.
