Csilla Gesztelyi Nagy & Pierre Martin: Two Voices

This programme is held in Hungarian.

Two Voices is the imprint of an encounter between a female contemporary dancer (Csilla Gesztelyi Nagy) and a male jazz musician (Pierre Martin), built on a dialogue of sound and vision, music and movement, while constantly pushing the boundaries of perception. The central question of the performance is: what emotional, physical and cultural distances separate us from one another, and how can these be bridged through the language of music and dance? The piece explores different forms of communication: the moments when we talk past each other, and those when body and voice move and sound to the same rhythm, when we are present for one another in the same space and time, deeply and intimately – the audiovisual dialogue born on stage comes together as a special, two-part symphony in which the two artists move as one body and sound as one instrument.

Csilla Gesztelyi Nagy is a dancer, choreographer and pedagogue. She studied at the Hungarian Dance University and at CODARTS University of the Arts in Rotterdam. In her creative and educational activities, she researches the interrelations of movement, imagination and communal experience, and in both her performances and her teaching she represents a forward-looking, sensitive and reflective artistic approach. Since 2008 she has been a permanent creative and performing member of ARTUS – Goda Gábor Company. In 2012 she founded the creative community Cipolla Collectiva, and as its artistic director she creates contemporary performing arts projects using interdisciplinary working methods. In her work, special emphasis is placed on body awareness, presence, and a personal, experience-based connection with the audience.

Pierre Martin-Bànos grew up between France and Hungary in a world where music is omnipresent. As a drummer he was initially drawn to the rock and pop scene, but later improvised music increasingly found its way into his repertoire. Since 2018 he has been more and more present “on the boards” as well: theatre performances are now part of his everyday artistic life. He lives in Paris, and his current projects revolve around modern theatre, composition, improvisation and the stage as a living space.
