Eris Satie and 'The Six'

This programme is held in Hungarian.

Have you heard of the French Six? Perhaps yes, there may be quite a few music lovers who even know who its members are.

The role models of the artist group were Eric Satie and Jean Cocteau. From the recollections of Darius Milhaud, we can learn how this group came into existence? “After the concert held at the Salle Huyghens in 1919, critic Henri Collet published an article titled: »Five Russians and the French«. He arbitrarily selected six names: Auric, Durey, Honegger, Poulenc, Tailleferre, and myself, simply because we knew each other, were good friends, and mostly performed together, completely independent of the fact that we had different temperaments and totally different characters.”
Who are these composers? Why are they mentioned together with Satie? What musical ideas and ideologies are articulated in the “Six”? What role do these composers play in the music of the 20th century? What kind of music is created? All of this is told by Dóra Tápai, conductor, high school music teacher, and music educator at the House of Hungarian Music, who has great stories prepared for today as well! It's a great experience when we can hear live music, and this will be the case at the season-closing event: a young, talented pianist, Péter Ittzés, who graduated from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 2023, will be the guest musician.
