SOLD-OUT - Infinite Rhythm: Bernhard Schimpelsberger (AUT)
House of Music has launched a new series entitled Boundless Rhythm, in which we aim to show how diverse the world of drums and percussion instruments is, and that it is possible to create complete music using only these instruments. The second event in the Boundless Rhythm series features Austrian percussionist and composer Bernhard Schimpelsberger. His solo program, Meridian – Melody of Rhythm, explores the melody of rhythm and new dimensions of rhythmic music.
Bernhard Schimpelsberger is one of the selected artists for the Beethovenfest Fellowship Programme 2025 — learned the complex rhythmic system of Indian classical music from master drummers such as Suresh Talwalkar and Trilok Gurtu, and is now a sought-after performer in a number of genres. He has worked with Indian music stars such as Anoushka Shankar (sitar), Akram Khan (dance), and Nitin Sawhney (film composer), who helped him develop a drumming style that "resembles that of a true tabla virtuoso" (Confluence Magazine). His international collaborations—with Spanish flamenco dancer Israel Galván, Palestinian oud virtuoso Adnan Joubrann, Cuban rumba ensemble Osain del Monté, and South African cellist Abel Selaocoé—have brought him worldwide recognition and further enriched his musical repertoire. Schimpelsberger's original compositions have been performed at the Beethoven Festival in Bonn, the World Rowing Championships in Ottensheim/Linz, and by the Britten Sinfonia and the Malta National Dance Company. In Meridian, Schimpelsberger creates captivating melodies, harmonies, and sounds from his specially designed drum kit. Immerse yourself in the colorful world of percussion and let the rhythm take you on an exciting journey!
