Petőfi Band

Petőfi Band
This programme is held in Hungarian.
Since the opening of the House of Music, it has considered it its mission to present the musical life of Hungarian cities outside the capital. The next destination of the “City in the House” series is Sopron. The festival, which showcases the musical life of “the most faithful Hungarian city,” will take place in the spirit of the diversity characteristic of the House, and is organized jointly by the House of Music and the city of Sopron. On the first day of the festival, Saturday, the Petőfi Band, the band of the artists of the Sopron Petőfi Theatre, will introduce themselves, and the Sopron-born Sonny will also perform with his band Sonny and His Wild Cows, conjuring up the America of the 1940s and ’50s – rockabilly, rhythm and blues. On Sunday, the Fajkusz Banda, Sopron’s renowned folk music ensemble, will play. Before them there will be Sunday Music, that is, a chamber music concert in a bourgeois atmosphere with musicians marrying into/from Sopron: pianist László Legendy and violinist Eszter Lesták-Bedő, as well as members of the Wespa Quartet. Meanwhile, in the Club Library there will be a Record-Spinner session featuring recordings of the Sopron Liszt Ferenc Symphony Orchestra, including works by composers from Sopron (József Soproni, Jenő Takács, Sándor Szokolay), and there will also be a pop-up exhibition with Sándor Szokolay’s panels.
The Petőfi Band is made up of members of the company of the Sopron Petőfi Theatre, for whom both music and prose are close to their hearts. They embarked on making music together in 2022, bringing great Hungarian poets closer to the audience. Noró Kiss and Attila Pap began by setting to music the poems that inspired them with two acoustic guitars, and a band formed around this, “especially since at the same time they were asked to organize an actors’ band by then theatre director Misa Ragány. Each member of the seven-piece band – Noró Kiss, Attila Papp, Mihály Vida, Levente Lakatos, Andrea Simon, László Szabó, Flórián Kónyai – is a theatre or art person. Alongside their work, sometimes they recite on stage, at other times they pick up instruments – guitar, violin, or even accordion – and dazzle their audience with adaptations of masterpieces of Hungarian poetry. And their audience is growing steadily; more and more people are seeking them out.”

The City of Loyalty exhibition around the House
Since the opening of the House of Music it has been part of our mission to present the musical life of Hungarian cities, and with this aim we created our “City in the House” series, within the framework of which several provincial cities rich in musical and cultural life have already presented their varied musical scenes, outstanding ensembles, arts festivals, and emerging talents in a colourful cavalcade of programmes, such as Szeged, Pécs, Székesfehérvár, Veszprém, and Debrecen. The “City in the House” series embodies the House’s mission: in the Szeged programme offer, genre diversity and popular education appear side by side, while at the same time giving future talents an opportunity to make their debut.
Dear Visitor, We kindly inform you that during the event, photographs, audio recordings, and/or video recordings may be taken. By attending the event, you consent to the recording of such materials through your implied conduct.
