Little G Weevil & His Band

This programme is held in Hungarian.

Little G Weevil, multiple award-winning southern blues singer, songwriter, guitarist, lyricist, and producer, winner of the International Blues Challenge, USA Blues Music Award nominee, two-time Blues Blast Music Award nominee. He is an honorary lifetime member of the Atlanta Blues Society. On this evening, he takes the stage with the world-class musicians featured on his latest album (If I May...) and selects from his own compositions as well as his favorite blues classics. “Word on the street is that new songs will be performed as well, because after all: Blues for Life.”

Gee, whose Hungarian birth name is Gábor Szűcs, was born in Budapest to parents of Jász and Kun ancestry. He began his musical journey as a member of Spo-Dee-O-Dee in Hungary, then released excellent albums with his own band, Pure Blues. At the age of 27, he emigrated to the United States. He landed in Birmingham, Alabama in 2004, but his music career took off on Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee, where he regularly performed as Little G Weevil at the legendary Blues City Cafe. His first solo recordings were also made in Memphis.

In 2006, he moved to London, England for a few years, then returned to the USA in 2009 and settled in Atlanta. His second (The Teaser, 2012) and third (Moving, 2013) albums were recorded in Atlanta with local musicians. The cult English music magazine MOJO ranked the former as the tenth and the latter, ’Moving’, as the third-best blues album of the year.

In 2013, Little G Weevil won the International Blues Challenge competition in the solo/duo category and also took home the best guitarist award in his category.

The IBC is the largest gathering of blues musicians in the world, held annually in Memphis. The IBC competition is organized by the genre’s parent organization, the Blues Foundation, founded in 1980, which is also responsible for presenting the National Blues Award. The Blues Music Award is considered the highest honor given to blues musicians in the United States: Nominees and winners are named based on votes from 110 nominators and the 4000 members of the Blues Foundation. In 2014, Little G Weevil was nominated for the Blues Music Awards in the “Acoustic Artist of the Year” category.

Between 2014 and 2024, Gee released six more albums. His latest release, ’If I May…’ reached the top spot on the Roots Music Report's global blues radio play chart, an independent American organization.
