Quinteto Astor Piazzolla
Quinteto Astor Piazzolla
After the death of Argentinian composer and bandoneon player Astor Piazzolla, who was regarded as the ambassador of tango, his widow, Laura Escalada Piazzolla, founded the Astor Piazzolla Foundation with the mission of preserving the maestro’s artistic legacy. The Quinteto Astor Piazzolla was founded in 1998 by five outstanding virtuoso musicians dedicated to sustaining Piazzolla’s oeuvre as perfectly as possible and presenting the soundscape of Buenos Aires to the world. Piazzolla’s trademark instrumental configuration was the quintet: bandoneon, violin, piano, electric guitar and double bass, for which he created and developed the Nuevo Tango sound from 1960 and which is carried on by this current quintet as they lavishly preserve his legacy, having released four albums so far (including an LP that won a Latin Grammy).
