Àbáse: Folk Tales From Eastern Europe

From time to time, the House of Music shares curatorial duties with an artist, and the next such Curator Weekend host is Fanni Zahár, a flutist, saxophonist, producer, and DJ (Zakhorov), a well-known musician of her generation, a member and contributor to numerous formations both at home and abroad. This versatile artist, who is at home in a wide range of genres, has put together two events on consecutive days for her Curator Weekend - a double performance evening and a multi-participant concert during the winter-spring transition.

On the second day of the Fanni Zahár weekend, on Saturday, music from different worlds meets again, this time Eastern European folk music meets jazz and electronics. Bognár Szabi, known as the founder of SoulClap Budapest or The Mabon Dawud Republic - whose fresh 2024 jazz-fusion album Awakening is also a great success - is joined by many performers he hasn't collaborated with much before: Transylvanian singer Hanga Kacsó, Miczura Mónika from Ando Drom and her own productions, Róbert Kerényi leading Szigony, and cimbalom player Jenő Lisztes. On this evening, we can witness a very special ensemble, as well-known members of the Budapest jazz and folk music scene join forces to create a one-time and unrepeatable fusion within and beyond the boundaries of the aforementioned genres.

"Szabolcs and I came up with the theme for the evening together, and we will both lead and produce this one-time and unrepeatable occasion. We have both been fascinated by the fusion of Hungarian folk, jazz, and electronics for a long time, so we put together a special lineup from our favorite folk and jazz musicians,” says Zahár Fanni, the host of the Curator Weekend, about the concert.
