György Korda György/Klári Balázs onstage/backstage - Pop Up Exhibition Opening
This programme is held in Hungarian.
At its first pop-up exhibition of 2026, the Pop Culture Club Library of the House of Music pays tribute to György Korda and Klári Balázs with a special themed display, in which, stepping out of the stage spotlight visible to everyone, we gain insight into the couple’s home and everyday life, seeing them as they prepare for their performances behind the scenes, or as they step off the stage tired but recharged by the audience’s love and return to their daily routines.
As a related event to the exhibition, György Korda and Klári Balázs, the March guests of the Magyar albummm! series, will share with those interested the creative process and birth of the album Szeptember volt (which includes Reptér). György Korda, who celebrated his 87th birthday on January 4, is one of the most successful pop song singers in Hungarian pop history, and in recent decades has also become a popular television poker commentator (there are legends surrounding his passion for cards). Together with his wife, the singer Klári Balázs, he has been performing duets since 1981, and since 1986 they have been releasing their albums jointly.
György Korda originally started out as a chemical technician, but after finishing secondary school he studied singing with Ernő Vécsey, thanks to which he entered the domestic light music scene from the late 1950s. By 1966 he had released nearly two hundred singles and made countless radio recordings. His first hit was Szeretni kell (“You Have to Love”), which was followed by such hits as Ti diró, Állj most elém! Nem várlak már, Nem vagyok ideges, Amour, mon Amour, Halló szöszi tündér, Ha sírnál. The rise of beat music did not favor traditional pop songs, yet Korda retained his popularity even in the beat era, mainly because he regularly appeared at song festivals and hit showcases. His unquestionably biggest hit is Reptér (“Airport”), which appeared on his 1981 LP Szeptember volt; the song has become so popular again in recent years that, well past the age of 80, he even shot a music video for it.
In the early eighties he met the singer Klári Balázs, whom he not only married but with whom he has been regularly performing ever since – for more than forty years now. Their work was recognized in 2023 with the Fonogram Lifetime Achievement Award.
