SOLD-OUT - Bahorka Company - Gossiping women

The program is held in Hungarian.

The Bahorka Company have developed a style all their own they call improvisational folklore theater. It constitutes a game played between the past and the present, between the village and the city, and between children and adults. They tell stories with music, breaking down the boundaries between the stage and the auditorium, allowing the audience to feel like they have returned to an old, yet somehow familiar, world that conveys contemporary feelings. “The lads and lasses of our fine company entertain our esteemed viewers with cheerful music and amusing stories, incorporating them into all these good things, because they themselves are part of the show having fun with us!” This concert by the Bahorka Company is based on the music from their album ‘Gossiping Women’, which consists of poems by Sándor Weöres that they have set to music, Hungarian, Gypsy and Balkan folk music, along with some jazz sounds.

Three girls relate their dreams, desires and stories both real and imaginary, like the ones about the dancing goats and the brides of Bonchida and the Cat Lady who can teach you how to perform magic! By the end, you will know who it is up there on the Libidor Hill, what it is that redheaded girls do and how rumours are born!

Music too has its own close friends. And as friends do, they often meet up to create wonderful things together. In this series, we aim to show how dance, theatre, and poetry are all connected to music and, conversely, how the addition of music can enhance these other art forms. As for how we plan to do this, suffice it to say that these special performances in this series are all inspired by folk traditions, so those attending them will also be exposed to some of Hungary’s tremendous richness in this regard! So anyone who enjoys learning new things while having fun would do well to purchase tickets for this series!

This programme is recommended for visitors aged 5 and older.
