Musician's Café: Károly Puka & His Band
Musician's Café: Károly Puka & His Band
This programme is held in Hungarian.
Whether it's about the invigorating tunes of Gypsy string bands or the stirring melodies of bar pianists, the restaurants, pubs, and cafes in Hungarian cities have always been imbued with music. The House of Music Hungary's café is launching a series called "Musicians' Café," which once a month takes the audience into the world of hospitality musicians. During our café evenings, the ambiance of the restaurants from Gyula Krúdy's era comes to life, the time of celebrities like Pál Jávor, Antal Páger reveling with bands, or the decadent gentry.
The aim of the series is to draw attention to one of the most important parts of Hungarian heritage, the Roma music of the cafés, which sadly is increasingly neglected nowadays.
