Timber Timbre (CAN)
The Canadian Timber Timbre is essentially Taylor Kirk, a singer-guitarist-keyboardist-songwriter, joined by his frequently changing companions, playing a folk, chamber pop, Americana-style formation. With their 2023 latest album, reminiscent of their successful albums from the 2010s, they are introducing the refined Lovage tour in Hungary for the first time.
Taylor Kirk launched Timber Timbre in 2005, initially releasing acoustic, folk blues, Americana, stripped-down albums. As the formation became more well-known and successful (featuring many guest and accompanying musicians), their sound became more richly instrumented and diverse. The 2009 self-titled album marked their breakthrough, and their 2011 album Creep On Creepin’ On was rightly associated with artists like Nick Cave, Johnny Cash, or Wovenhand. The 2014 widely celebrated Hot Dreams included sophisticated arrangements. The 2017 Sincerely, Future Pollution replaced the previously ambient tempo with a somewhat groovier, art-pop sound, boldly incorporating synthesizers, followed by a long pause during which Kirk activated himself as a producer. The most recent album, released after a six-year gap, supplemented the already existing Leonard Cohen moods on a Timber Timbre album with novel solutions. The protagonist speaks of the influence of Brian Wilson, Sun Ra, and Italian songwriters. Nevertheless, Timber Timbre, with its homely album tour, is arriving at the House of Music, pairing perverse piano ballads and spiritual jazz interludes on islands of exotica and art-pop.
