BILL FRISELL & THOMAS MORGAN ,Small town’ DUO

Bill Frisell has been one of the best and most prominent jazz guitarists since the early eighties, but anyone who has the slightest interest in the genre knows that. His work, however, is obviously well known beyond that as he has included elements of folk, country, Americana and rock and roll on his albums and at his concerts, and he has also worked with Elvis Costello and Suzanne Vega. In the jazz world, he was a regular guitarist for Paul Motian from 1982, had a long and fruitful working relationship with avant-garde musician John Zorn, and the list just goes on and on, from Jan Garbarek to Ron Carter to Dave Holland. He plays with bassist Thomas Morgan, for example, with whom he has also recorded several albums including duo albums such as Small Town (2016), which is now being revisited at the House of Music. You can expect peaceful, immersive, meditative improvisations at this concert, which will fit perfectly between the glass walls of the House through which the awakening spring is so clearly visible.

Bill Frisell's career as a guitarist and composer spans more than 40 years and numerous acclaimed releases, his back catalogue being named among the "best recordings of the last decade" by the leading jazz magazine Downbeat. Active since the early 2000s, bassist Thomas Morgen's name first appeared on a Dan Weiss, Dave Liebman, Thomas Carbou album, but he too has worked with Paul Motian, who first played with Frisell on his 2011 album The Windmills Of Your Mind. The guitarist then invited Morgen to play bass on his 2016 album When You Wish Upon A Star, which was conceived when Frisell was guest curating the Roots of Americana series at the Lincoln Center for two years (2013 through September 2015). The duo then made the songful duo album Small Town for guitar and bass, an ECM release followed by another live album, the melodic, minimalistic and soothing Epistrophy (2019), also typical of the sound of this German label. They also collaborated on Frisell's studio album Valentine (2020) which had a similar sound to it. So, they are a strongly connected duo who are now revisiting a classic that is a perfect musical fit for the House of Music's concert space – an unmissable event.
